Manavgat is a river city and a broad holiday district stretching from the Mediterranean coast towards the Taurus foothills. The town centre sits inland around the Manavgat River, where everyday shops, local streets and a market-town rhythm shape the atmosphere. It is a working urban centre rather than a beachfront resort.
Manavgat holidays extend well beyond this inland centre. The district also includes ancient Side, long hotel-lined beaches, quieter eastern shores and the reservoirs and wooded canyons of the Taurus foothills.
Finding the right setting for Manavgat holidays

Side's historic peninsula is the district's best-known resort centre. Its ancient centre sits beside a harbour with shops and restaurants, while beaches run along both sides of the peninsula.
West of Side, Kumköy, Evrenseki and Çolaklı form part of a long accommodation and beach corridor. This coast has a more continuous resort feel than central Manavgat, with hotels and holiday facilities spread along the shore rather than around an old town.
East of Side, the landscape becomes greener around the forested coast of Sorgun and the lake and river setting of Titreyengöl. Large resort grounds are prominent in this eastern zone, amid lake, river and forest landscapes. Farther east, Kızılağaç and Kızılot feel more separate from Side's evening centre.
A district shaped by water
The Manavgat River runs past the town, spreads across the broad, low Manavgat Waterfall and eventually reaches the Mediterranean at Manavgat Boğazı. Downstream boat excursions follow low riverbanks and open water towards the mouth, where river, lagoon and seashore meet. Routes, stops and onboard arrangements vary between operators.
Beach character changes along the coast. Side's east and west beaches, the western resort corridor and the shores near Sorgun, Titreyengöl and Kızılot can differ in sand, fine shingle, gradient, waves and development. Manavgat's coast is long, but it is not one uniform beach.
Five places that define the district
- Manavgat Waterfall spreads the river across a broad, forceful cascade; its scale comes from width rather than height.
- Side ancient city includes a theatre, agora, monumental streets and city gates beside the sea. The Apollo and Athena temple remains frame the waterfront, while Side Museum displays local finds in a restored Roman bath.
- The Manavgat River mouth is where freshwater, lagoon and Mediterranean shore meet, in marked contrast to the working inland town.
- Köprülü Canyon and Tazı Canyon bring the Taurus landscape into view beyond the coast. Forest, rock walls, Köprüçay and historic Oluk Bridge define the inland scene; rafting is established on the river, although routes and conditions vary.

- Oymapınar and Green Canyon centre on reservoir water between steep wooded slopes, with boat trips focused on the canyon scenery. Unlike the lower river, this inland landscape is enclosed by forest rather than opening towards the Mediterranean.
Seasons beyond high summer
Summers are very hot, while winters are mild. Late spring and early autumn often suit holidays that combine beaches, Side's ruins, river scenery and inland canyons with less intense heat than high summer.

Frequently asked questions
The coastline varies from sandy sections to areas with fine shingle, and the gradient and wave conditions differ by location. Side's beaches, the western resort corridor and the eastern coast near Sorgun or Kızılot do not all have the same character.
The main experiences include seeing Manavgat Waterfall, exploring Side's ancient city and museum, and discovering the river mouth. Köprülü Canyon, Tazı Canyon and the Green Canyon reservoir add mountain, gorge and forest scenery to a coastal holiday.
No. Manavgat town is an inland urban centre beside the Manavgat River, while Side is the district's historic coastal peninsula, with ancient ruins, a harbour and beaches.
Side places ancient sites, restaurants and beaches together around the peninsula. The western resort corridor has a more continuous hotel-zone feel, while Sorgun and Titreyengöl are defined more by forest, lake and river landscapes.
The district includes many established coastal resort areas as well as historical and nature-based outings that can work well for family holidays. Suitability depends on the exact hotel area and beach, since shore gradient, surface and wave conditions vary along the coast.
