This Serik travel guide follows a district that reaches from a busy inland town across an agricultural plain to Mediterranean beaches and the lower slopes of the Taurus Mountains. Roman stonework, river scenery and resort hotels all belong to Serik, but they are spread across a broad and varied area.

The town centre and the resort coast

Serik centre sits on the coastal plain, away from the beach. Its streets are shaped by local shops, public services, agriculture and the routines of a working district town, rather than a seafront promenade or a quarter of beach hotels. Fields and greenhouses are part of the surrounding landscape, with wooded hills rising farther north.

The district boundary also reaches south to the Mediterranean. This is where Belek, Kadriye and Boğazkent form Serik’s main tourism belt. Broad sandy beaches, large resorts, golf courses, spas and family-focused hotel grounds give this coast a classic resort atmosphere. These coastal resort neighbourhoods belong administratively to Serik, but Serik centre is an inland working town.

Aspendos beyond the Roman theatre

Interior and curved stone seating of Aspendos Roman Theatre near Serik

At Belkıs, within Serik district, Aspendos rises near the Eurymedon—the river now called Köprüçay. Its position beside the river served the fertile plain and trade routes beyond it.

The Roman theatre is the unmistakable centrepiece. Its soaring stage building and curved banks of stone seating make it one of the best-preserved theatres in the Mediterranean world. The monumental interior is only part of the site. The upper city spreads across the hilltop above it. Surviving walls mark the agora area, the basilica and the footprints of other civic structures, showing how far public life extended beyond the performance space. Farther out, the aqueduct system follows its own line through the landscape, its channels and arches evidence of a major feat of Roman water engineering.

Inland sights not to miss

Uçansu Waterfall flowing through the rocky Taurus landscape in Serik

North of the centre, Zeytintaşı Cave lies near Akbaş and Gökçeler. Discovered during quarry work, this relatively small protected cave is dense with well-preserved dripstone. Delicate “macaroni” stalactites hang like fine pale tubes, and some formations are still developing.

Farther into the Taurus foothills around Gebiz, Uçansu Waterfall descends through rocky walls amid pine and maquis vegetation. Its upper and lower falls feed turquoise pools, though the flow changes markedly with the seasons and is generally strongest in winter and spring. The Köprüçay also descends from the Taurus through canyon country before crossing the Serik region. Nearby Köprülü Canyon National Park spans a broader area beyond the district, and river views, historical bridges and aqueducts tie this inland landscape to the region’s ancient routes.

Seasons and holiday character

Beach resorts cluster around Belek, Kadriye and Boğazkent, with sand, pools, golf and extensive hotel facilities. Inland, Serik centre sits amid the agricultural plain, close to Aspendos and rural scenery. High summer is hot and busy on the coast; late spring and early autumn usually bring milder conditions across the wider district. Water levels at natural sights remain seasonal.
